On March 3, 1837, Congress appropriated $5,000 for a lighthouse at the mouth of Kalamzaoo River. Kalamazoo River has a length of nearly 180 miles and runs through the cities of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo before emptying into Lake Michigan at Saugatuck. At the time of European contact, members of Potawatomi tribes inhabited the area around the river. Fur traders frequented the river during the late eighteenth century.

Size 16"X20" and 22"X28" contemporary wooden frame paired with non-reflective, shatterproof acrylic lends the piece a refined, museum-quality presentation. Size 11X14 frame pairs with regular glass. Hand-made in the USA.

After the Snowfall

Watercolor meets cut-paper collage. Soft, textured watercolors are layered with cut-paper silhouettes to give each animal and scene crisp definition. The technique adds depth and a handmade charm. Deep black night skies create a dramatic backdrop that makes vibrant hues—icy blues, warm earth tones, and rainbow-like foliage—pop strikingly against the snow. Rich washes of color highlight the wildlife in imaginative yet realistic detail.
