Collection: Gold Mountain

The term "Gold Mountain" (金山, Jīnshān) was a name used by Chinese immigrants, particularly in the 19th and early 20th centuries, to refer to America, especially California. It originated during the California Gold Rush (1848–1855) when thousands of Chinese migrants traveled to the U.S. in search of wealth and better opportunities. Today, it is a  symbol of opportunity for the Chinese in America. A land of great fortune, where hard work could lead to wealth and success.

This series of work, categorized in 4 segments, digs into my immigrant experience and journey to success in America, interwoven with the rich and unique history of Chicago’s Chinatown.
